Digital Satiety

21 September - 13 October 2018
Overview

This exhibition looks at the spectacular realm of online gastronomy and our evolving visual relationship to food.  It uses painting and time-based media to explore the role of food images in mediating cultural meaning by acting as a dynamic currency of cultural exchange within the online visual economy.  Re-contextualised imagery focuses on high-end food, which represents the rise of autonomous visual-based food genres online, including curated image feeds and food porn.

A dual medium approach has been used to represent the interactive practices of digital media, exploring how photographic representation is being redefined within this genre.  As such, artworks examine the multi-textured space of hyper-realistic representation of contemporary food imaging online.  This includes the influence of digital technologies on its aesthetic evolution and the pervasive use of exaggerated styling, design and digital manipulation.
