Britt Fazey: This moment with you

26 September - 18 October 2025
Overview

Hobart is one of those truly unique cities in the world where the only company in your adventures can be the country itself. Just you, the rocky outcrops, dancing she-oaks and briny water that surround you. Not a single sound made by unnatural forces. That’s where Fazey takes us with this exhibition.

This Moment w ith You is a love letter to secret places- places you only discover once you’ve had the courage to take the time to go where the day takes you. Into secluded crevices like Pirate’s Cove, into hidden gulches and the watery secrets held by Southern Tasmania’s coastline...

Based on the South Arm peninsula in southern Lutruwita/Tasmania, emerging artist Britt Fazey is one of three sisters born to a sea loving mother and a seafaring father.

In recent years Britt has brought her artistic focus from a successful background in object creation to the dedicated development of her painting practise, gaining momentum and attracting significant interest from collectors.

Britt’s enduring relationship to the place she grew up in and returned to from adventures in the North East and West of mainland Australia is at the forefront of her work. It remains unmistakeably present in the intimate and detailed conversations she has with Southern Tasmania’s geological and aquatic landscapes.

Throughout the year she can be spotted balanced contentedly on a SUP, camera in hand, or on a water locked cove with her Kelpie Douggie, immersed in the impermanence found between our own human brevity and the timelessness of the rocks, water and the sheoaks.

Britt’s way of seeing the landscape is often from the water, where she welcomes the viewer to join her, inviting them to pause, search and connect with the natural world we share so briefly.

Winner of both the Curators Award and People’s Choice Award in the Bay of Fires Art Prize 2023, Britt’s first body of work shown with Bett Gallery in 2024 completely sold out.  Britt’s first solo exhibition with Bett Gallery in September 2025 is highly anticipated.
