‘The Long View - Iceberg #1’ was created through conducting a CT scan of a common garden rock. I then processed the scan using the lung preset of medical imaging software and transfigured the image into a landform. ‘The Long View’ series makes references to 18th century French cartographer Beautemps-Beaupre’s illustrations of ‘ Van Diemen’s Land’ coastline, and is inspired by the beauty of the icebergs of Antarctica. It makes connections between historical artefacts, science, and art. Using a diagnostic tool for the human body to create landscapes highlights how inextricably bound we are to the survival of the natural world, and the need to think beyond the here and now.
