A true “dinosaur” among irises, this species traces its lineage to the Cretaceous extinction event. It is the sole member of both its genus and subfamily (Isophysidoideae), an early-diverging branch of the iris family (Iridaceae). Found only in alpine, rocky sedgelands of Tasmania’s southwest.
