Devil (detail) 2008 |
Michael Doolan
Sleek and sophisticated, Michael Doolan’s
fascination with the world of toys sees him interpret them in a way that defies their cuddly sentimental
helplessness. Made in slip-cast ceramic, Doolan’s
sculptural surfaces are meticulously smoothed
to a mirror finish, with their reflectiveness highlighted
by a deep, platinum lustre.
Among his impressive achievements, Michael
Doolan was a finalist in the McClelland Sculpture Survey and Award 2007; has been the recipient of the Out of Time Grant, Australia Council for the Arts (2005); London Studio Residency, Australia Council for the Arts (2002); Sidney Myer International Ceramics Award (2002) and in 1995, he was awarded a gold medal at the 14th International Biennale, Ceramique d’Art, Vallauris, France.
Doolan’s wonderful ceramic sculpture features
in many private collections, as well as public
collections both locally and abroad. He is
represented in the Shepparton Art Gallery,
Victoria; Newcastle Region Gallery, New South
Wales; Gold Coast City Gallery and Ipswich Art
Gallery, Queensland; and the Chateau Museum,
Vallauris, France.
Prices range from $2,500 – $5,800 |

Forest floor 2008 |
Les Blakebrough
In a career spanning five decades, Les Blakebrough has become one of Australia’s most acclaimed
and influential master ceramic artists – a Living National Treasure.
His body of work has ranged from early functional wares to the more recent, delicate and highly refined
forms he currently produces. The great beauty of these later works emphasises the translucency,
fragility and strength of the Southern Ice porcelain, which he trademarked and spent more than five
years developing.
His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, all Australian state galleries and many
international collections, including the British and Danish Royal collections. He is the recipient of
numerous awards including a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Ceramic Art, Faenza, Italy,
1974 and a Churchill Fellowship in 1992.

Roll over, I think I love you 2008 |
Tom Samek
Tom Samek has been entertaining audiences with his wit as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, mural
artist, film animator and tapestry designer for four decades.
Samek’s gastronomic adventures and great appreciation for music are recurring motifs in his work.
He is the master of the one line pun, but like all good joke tellers, the punch line is only one part of
the story, the other is his wonderful creative imagination and great technical ability.
The exhibition includes new range of etchings, paintings, a wooden relief sculpture and a tapestry,
all of which are being shown for the first time.
Tom Samek has exhibited extensively since 1971 including numerous solo exhibitions in Melbourne,
Tasmania, Darwin, Austria and the Czech Republic. Collections include The National Gallery of
Australia, Canberra; Auckland City Gallery, New Zealand; Artbank, Sydney; South Australian Art
Gallery, Adelaide and The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart. His work appeals to a wide
cross-section of nationalities and hence, he is collected privately worldwide.
