Barbie Kjar has a six page feature in the current edition of Imprint Magazine about her recent residency on King Island.
In preparation for a solo exhibition at the Maritime Museum in Hobart in April this year, Kjar planned to research stories of the sea, in particular what lies under the surface and the maritime history of the island.
"This residency has been pivotal to the making of a new body of work, in which I am incorporating the images and objects I drew, reflecting different faces of the sea; it gave me time to experiment with techniques and concepts: artistically, I have moved in a new direction."
The King Island residency offers artists working in any art form two to six weeks of creative time. Organised by King Island Council and arts consultant Wendy Morrow, the residency includes accommodation and access to a car.
Barbie Kjar's exhibition “From the wild ocean” is on exhibition at the Tasmanian Maritime Museum, Hobart, opening April 22 and runs through until August 30 2023.
