Bett Gallery Hobart is well known for the successful
development and management of art collecting
groups over a 25 year period both in Australia and New
Zealand. Currently there are 16 such groups operating
throughout Australia.
Expressions of interest are now invited from Generation
X and Y collectors interested in joining a new art
collecting group to develop a major collection for the
benefit and enjoyment of members. This group will
focus on works by contemporary Australian artists with
a national reputation, building a collection of painting,
drawing, works on paper, photography and digital
media, sculpture and ceramics.
Members will jointly purchase artworks, to be housed in
member’s homes and rotated every six months.
This collection will be known as the Iron Pot Collection.
The Iron Pot Collection members will not be art professionals but people with a keen interest in
developing their knowledge of contemporary art, in
learning strategies for recognising quality artworks and
sharing in the development of a high quality collection.
Those expressing interest will be invited to information sessions held in Hobart.
Each Collection has a constitution, which governs all
aspects of its management.

The Iron Pot Collection will have 25 shareholders and
a life of ten years. Recognised couples can jointly own
a share. There is a joining fee of $1,000. Each share is
$3,000 per year paid quarterly.
Members will meet four times a year with meetings
rostered around member’s homes, artist studios and
exhibition venues. Meetings are social occasions as
well as opportunities to view and discuss acquired
works, future purchases and hear expert invited guest
speakers. Speakers will include artists, curators
and collectors.
An annually elected executive committee will meet
monthly and will be responsible for the day-to-day
management of the collection. The executive has
complete financial control and the prerogative with all
purchasing for that year.
Bett Gallery Hobart will provide curatorial guidance,
management support and individual member advice.
At the end of ten years, all collected works are valued
and there is a process of private auction, open only
to the shareholders. Members use their equity in
the collection to bid and in this way the collection is
redistributed from collective ownership to
private ownership.
